Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian headed to New York on Tuesday for the 81st United Nations General Assembly, saying he would use his address to highlight what he described as U.S. “oppression” and “savagery” in the region and call for an end to war and bloodshed. Pezeshkian said the United Nations should help “restore trust to the world,” as Iran and the United States remain sharply at odds. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is also in New York for the UNGA, where Iran says its delegation plans to hold bilateral meetings with international leaders. The UN General Debate is taking place from Sept. 22 to 28.
