Kenyan President William Ruto and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed critical minerals, trade and investment during talks on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. Ruto has advocated processing more of Kenya’s mineral resources domestically rather than exporting raw materials, while Washington is seeking greater opportunities for U.S. companies in Kenya’s critical minerals sector. The two also discussed the African Growth and Opportunity Act, artificial intelligence, nuclear energy and security issues including Somalia, Haiti and Sudan.
