CNN-News18 Exclusive: Inside Israel’s Knesset election preparations, with key voting details explained.
Israel is preparing for its Knesset election, with more than 12,000 polling stations being readied across the country. Over 7.3 million Israelis are eligible to vote, more than half a million higher than in 2022. Polling stations have also been set up in hospitals, prisons and for people displaced after October 7. Unlike India, Israel uses paper ballots, with voters selecting their preferred party’s slip, sealing it in an envelope and dropping it into a ballot box.
Voting must take place in person, with exceptions for soldiers and Israeli diplomats posted overseas. Election day is a national holiday, while public transport will continue to operate. With opinion polls no longer permitted to be published in the final hours of campaigning, exit polls are expected to offer the first indication of the outcome after voting closes at 10 pm local time (1:30 am IST). Official results are due on November 4, after which the battle to secure the 61 seats needed for a majority begins.
