EAM S Jaishankar said the 18th BRICS Summit is being held amid major shifts and disruptions, with countries facing the fallout of geopolitical tensions, health crises and climate shocks.
Speaking at the opening of the BRICS Business Forum 2026, he said: “Volatility, uncertainty, and complexity have become defining features of the world around us.”
Jaishankar also pointed to the opportunities emerging from advances in technology, saying: “Rapid digitalization and technological advances are opening new possibilities for growth, productivity and development.”
He stressed that the changing global environment makes the ability to anticipate challenges, adapt quickly and respond effectively increasingly important.
