Spain’s Ceuta saw clashes between police and protesters on Sunday as tensions over migration intensified following the arrival of a group carrying humanitarian aid for migrants and refugees. Police formed lines and pushed back demonstrators near the port, while a crowd later surrounded a car carrying Ceuta assembly member Julia Ferreras and activist Rafael Borrego, throwing objects at the vehicle and prompting police to fire shots into the air. Around 50 people initially gathered, with the crowd later reported to have grown to nearly 200. Earlier, more than 1,000 residents reportedly marched toward the Tarajal border demanding tighter controls after a large influx of migrants from neighbouring Morocco in July.
