Bangkok has declared a state of disaster after 48 hours of heavy rainfall left parts of the Thai capital submerged by floodwater.
A deluge of monsoon rainfall since Thursday afternoon has swollen Bangkok’s network of canals, sending muddy water into surrounding homes, restaurants, shops and alleyways.
Accumulated rainfall in many areas of the city has exceeded 30cm (12in), with more than 84,000 people affected, officials said.
The Bangkok metropolitan administration said the city’s pumping stations were operating at full capacity to divert water out of the city.
