President Donald Trump’s push for voters to pretend he’s on the ballot for the midterms might be backfiring, according to the latest poll from PBS News, NPR and Marist.
A majority of registered voters – 53% – say they would vote for Democratic candidates if November’s election were today. Forty-one percent said they’d back Republicans.
While not a forecast of election outcomes, the poll released Wednesday found a higher percentage of voters said their choice on Election Day will be a show of opposition to Trump, compared to those who said they’d cast a ballot as a sign of support for the president. Forty-five percent said their vote for Congress this November will be a vote against Trump, including 54% of independents. Another 24% say they consider their vote to be for Trump.
