Croatian armed forces joined emergency crews battling a series of wildfires across Dalmatia on Sunday, as thick smoke covered parts of the Adriatic coast. Firefighting aircraft and ground teams tackled blazes around Omiš, the Pelješac peninsula, Trolokve and Zadar County, days after a major fire near Omiš killed one person, injured dozens and forced around 1,200 residents and tourists to evacuate. More than 1,000 hectares were burned in that blaze, highlighting the growing wildfire threat facing Croatia amid extreme heat, drought and tinder-dry vegetation across Europe.
