Astronauts aboard the International Space Station have shown how they prepare dinner in zero gravity. In a video posted by astronaut Anil Menon, Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway demonstrate their unusual “slow cooking” method. The astronauts wrap onions and garlic in aluminium foil and place them inside a food warmer.
The food is then left to cook for around 12 to 24 hours. Meir said the crew gets especially excited when fresh fruits and vegetables arrive on resupply missions. She explained that leaving the onions longer helps them become more roasted and caramelised.
The unusual method offers a glimpse into what cooking dinner looks like hundreds of kilometres above Earth.
