New York’s Governor has appointed the office of Attorney General Letitia James as special prosecutor to oversee the case of an alleged gang rape of a Cornell University student in 2024.

The student filed a civil lawsuit last month, saying seven members of a campus fraternity drugged and assaulted her.
Governor Kathy Hochul said newly-released information raised questions about the investigation by Cornell Police and the prosecutor’s decision not to pursue charges.
