Ensuring changes after Letby inquiry

An inquiry has found there was a “complete failure” to protect babies from Lucy Letby, who is serving 15 whole-life terms for killing seven babies and attempting to kill seven more at Countess of Chester Hospital.

Lady Justice Thirwall found senior managers took too long to call the police and they also devised an aggressive plan to remove the doctors who raised the concerns.

Thirwall made 17 recommendations, including cameras in cots in neonatal units, and Health Secretary Yvette Cooper has promised a new way to monitor whether recommendations from NHS inquiries actually take place.
