India has a new eye in the sky. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched its GSLV-F17 rocket carrying EOS-05 from Sriharikota at 2:55 AM IST on September 4, 2026. ISRO confirmed that the mission successfully placed EOS-05 into its intended orbit.
EOS-05 is a major Earth-observation milestone for India, becoming the country’s first imaging satellite designed to operate from a geosynchronous orbit. Positioned at roughly 36,000 km above Earth, the satellite is designed to provide continuous observation of India and surrounding regions, with applications including disaster management, agriculture, weather monitoring and strategic observation.
