Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking from the ramparts of the Red Fort on India’s 80th Independence Day, highlighted India’s rapid expansion of its piped gas distribution network. PM Modi said that around 12 years ago, before 2014, piped gas distribution was available in only 70 cities across the country. He said that coverage has now expanded to 700 cities, highlighting what he described as the pace and scale of India’s infrastructure development. The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of energy security and said India is rapidly moving towards alternative energy sources while optimising energy consumption.
