Voting is taking place in the Clacton by-election. The vote was triggered by the resignation of MP Nigel Farage. There are 34 candidates on the ballot paper, so the local council needs larger tables than usual for the count. The contest is estimated to have cost taxpayers around £250,000. The main Westminster parties are boycotting the election which they have dismissed as a stunt.
