India’s ‘Cockroach’ leaders detained as police crackdown on protests

Police in New Delhi have detained scores of protesters, including all three leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party, ahead of a banned youth-led demonstration.

The protesters are demanding the resignation of India’s chief election commissioner over a voter list revision that reportedly removed around 130 million names, which critics say could benefit Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP.

Authorities deployed thousands of security personnel, shut metro stations and suspended mobile internet in parts of the capital.
