Paramount settled anti-trust concerns with a dozen states Monday over its buyout of Warner Bros. Discovery, clearing the way for the $81 billion deal to move ahead.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta told reporters that “this settlement is not a vote of support for this merger,” but he acknowledged that it was the best outcome.
Bonta also laid out details of the deal, which include the creation of independent editorial boards for CNN and CBS and a commitment for increased film production in the U.S.
In July, a group of states sued Paramount over concerns that the combined company would wield too much power over the industry.
The settlement still needs final court approval.
