“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” sold $360 million worth of tickets in North America over the weekend, topping the previous all-time record “Avengers: Endgame” set seven years ago. “Endgame” swamped everything else that was then in cinemas, but this year, Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” will not be swamped.
“Odyssey” is still playing to long lines at IMAX theaters and took in an impressive $51 million in its third weekend. Combined with the take from the still strong kid-flick franchises “Toy Story,” “Minions” and “Moana,” that helped bring the overall weekend take to $430 million — easily the highest total in Hollywood history.
