Deadly flash floods have devastated Nepal’s Rasuwa district, killing more than 90 people and leaving over 400 tourists and pilgrims unaccounted for, including more than 100 Indians. The floods swept through the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river systems, destroying roads, bridges, homes and critical infrastructure. Nepal has launched a massive search-and-rescue operation, while India has placed Bihar on alert over possible downstream flooding. Scientists are also investigating whether an ice avalanche or earthquake-triggered avalanche may have contributed to the sudden surge of water. Experts, however, have not yet established the exact cause of the disaster or confirmed a link to a glacial lake outburst.
