Iran’s Araghchi Meets Qatar PM, European Ministers Amid U.S. Tensions
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held talks with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, as well as his Italian and Swiss counterparts, on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Araghchi’s meeting with Qatar’s prime minister focused on regional developments, de-escalation efforts and strengthening regional security and stability. He also met Italy’s Antonio Tajani and Switzerland’s Ignazio Cassis as Tehran stepped up diplomatic engagement at the UN.
Araghchi said Iran’s priority was to defend the rights and interests of its people at the international forum, describing the recent conflict involving Iran as an ‘unjust war’. His meetings came as tensions between Tehran and Washington remained high, with U.S. President Donald Trump saying American officials had held three-hour talks with the Iranian side in New York.
