Dramatic eyewitness footage shows sections of a building collapsing at a port in Maumere on Indonesia’s Flores Island, as people run through the streets following a powerful earthquake. A 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of eastern Indonesia early on August 15, according to Indonesia’s geophysics agency BMKG. Several aftershocks followed, while tsunami waves of less than one metre were recorded in several areas. The footage shows parts of the structure crashing onto the ground and into the water as bystanders flee the area. Reuters verified the location by matching the buildings and port layout with archival and satellite imagery, while the date was corroborated through eyewitness footage and reports of the earthquake.
