A cockpit attack stopped just in time, but the revelations emerging now are raising even bigger questions.
Investigators are reportedly probing claims that Flydubai co-pilot Hammam al-Hammami had planned to bring down FZ1073 even before joining the airline, with Tel Aviv allegedly considered as a target.
Captain Smit Machchhar’s actions inside the cockpit helped avert what could have been a devastating tragedy. But as the investigation widens, so does the debate: How did the alleged radicalisation escape scrutiny, and has Captain Smit’s bravery received the response it deserves back home?
