US President Donald Trump has met newly freed American Stephen Hubbard at the White House and pledged to work towards securing the release of other Americans detained in Russia.
“We’re going to be working on them,” Trump said, referring to Americans who remain in Russian detention.
The President estimated that as many as eight Americans could still be detained in Russia. He also noted that Hubbard’s case had attracted significant attention because many viewed his detention as particularly troubling.
The meeting comes as the Trump administration signals its continued efforts to bring detained Americans back home.
