Man Rips Down Opposition Poster Before Israel Polls Open | Times Now World

Listen to this article

Tensions surfaced in northern Israel on Tuesday as a man was filmed kicking and tearing down an election campaign poster for opposition candidate Gadi Eisenkot in Kiryat Shmona, shortly before polling stations opened.

The incident comes as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faces a challenge from the former military chief in an election shaped by security concerns, political divisions and public frustration over the country’s recent conflicts. Kiryat Shmona, near the Lebanese border, was temporarily evacuated after repeated rocket attacks from Lebanon and continues to bear the effects of the fighting.

The election is the first national vote since the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attack on Israel triggered the war in Gaza and wider regional conflict. Polls suggest neither major political bloc may secure a parliamentary majority, potentially setting the stage for prolonged coalition negotiations.

The result could influence Israel’s political direction, security policy and approach to the ongoing regional tensions.
