The LeMat Revolver was a 10-shot Civil War era hybrid firearm — a revolver AND a shotgun combined into one weapon. Invented in 1843 by French physician Jean LeMat, this Confederate revolver held 9 rounds in its cylinder plus a hidden 16 or 20-gauge shotgun barrel underneath. Used by Confederate icons Stonewall Jackson, JEB Stuart, and General Beauregard, the LeMat Revolver became one of the most legendary Civil War weapons ever smuggled through the Union blockade. Today, an original LeMat Revolver can sell for over $17,000 at auction. Learn the full history of this unusual revolver shotgun combo gun.
