Oman Tanker Hit By Drone Union Seeks Update on 2 Missing Indians

Listen to this article

The Forward Seamen’s Union of India (FSUI) has sought an urgent status update on two Indian seafarers, Bir Bahadur Yadav and Amit Singh, who went missing after a drone strike on the Nicaragua-flagged tanker MT Petro Dolphin near Oman’s Sohar Anchorage on October 11.

The Indian Embassy in Oman said it was closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with the concerned authorities. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Sunday that two of the 11 Indian seafarers aboard the vessel were reported missing.

The MEA also reported an attack on the Marshall Islands-flagged tanker MT Valthera, which caught fire after being struck by an unknown projectile. All 11 Indian seafarers aboard the vessel were reported safe. India has condemned the attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz region and called for de-escalation, while the embassy and ship management companies work with Omani authorities to assist the missing crew members.
