Around 60,000 runners took part in the Moscow Marathon on Sunday, according to race director Dmitri Tarasov, with participants from more than 800 towns and cities across Russia and more than 40 countries. Kenyan runner Micah Chemveno won the marathon, while Tanzanian world champion Alphonce Simbu addressed participants at the event. Tarasov said the race was part of the BRICS Marathon League, which also includes marathons in Kazan and St Petersburg, and described the participation figure as unprecedented for a Russian marathon. The event featured professional and international runners alongside mass-participation athletes, with the race taking place across the Russian capital.
