Dutch police dispersed an anti-asylum protest in Kesteren on Thursday night and arrested seven people after the demonstration became disorderly, with protesters seen lighting flares and fireworks as officers moved to clear the area. Police said four people were arrested in connection with fireworks and three others for resisting arrest. Several hundred people had gathered to protest plans to accommodate asylum seekers in the Neder-Betuwe municipality. The demonstration followed unrest the previous week in nearby Opheusden over the same issue.
