Kim Jong Un Inspects Weapons Factories, Pushes AI Into North Korea’s Weapons Systems

Listen to this article

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has called for greater use of artificial intelligence in offensive and defensive combat systems during a three-day inspection of major weapons factories, state media images showed on Saturday. Kim visited several munitions enterprises from September 16 to 18, where he reviewed weapons production and plans to expand manufacturing capacity, and called for increased automation and armour protection for artillery. Images released by the Korean Central News Agency showed Kim inspecting military vehicles, drones, missiles and other equipment, although the exact time and location could not be independently verified. Kim said efforts to modernise the country’s defence capabilities were bringing changes to the structure and equipment of its armed forces and its war plans.
