Water was seen gushing onto a subway platform in Nagoya as torrential rain led to Japan’s Meteorological Agency (JMA) issuing its highest flood warning level for two prefectures on Tuesday, September 8.

Nagoya City in Aichi Prefecture recorded 104.5 mm (4.11 inches) of rain in a one-hour period – the highest hourly rainfall ever recorded in the city, NHK reported citing the JMA.
Weather officials said torrential rain could continue in many parts of the country over the next few days and urged people to remain on high alert for landslides, overflowing rivers, and flooding in low-lying areas.
Nagoya City on Japan’s east coast was drenched by a record-breaking amount of rain on Tuesday, September 8, as severe flash flooding brought the city to a standstill during peak-hour in the afternoon.
The city’s meteorological office recorded 104.5 mm (4.1 inches) of rain in the hour to 4:53 pm – the highest level since records began in 1890, according to local reporting.
An evacuation warning was issued to about 2.65 million residents in the affected areas as the Shounai River reached dangerous levels.
