More than 100 people gathered in Sydney for a candlelit vigil honouring those killed or missing in the devastating Nepal floods. Members of the Nepali, Tibetan and wider Australian communities gathered at Martin Place, lighting candles, chanting and observing a minute’s silence for the victims. Humanitarian worker Nagendra Adhikari said a friend, along with relatives and others he knew, remained missing. “We are still hoping for good news,” he said, describing the disaster as a huge tragedy. Attendees also spoke of the pain of losing homes, land and loved ones, while Australian Federal Parliamentarian Zhi Soon expressed solidarity with communities affected by the disaster. The devastating floods were triggered after a glacier collapse unleashed rock, ice, mud and debris through Himalayan river systems.
