A set of lungs have travelled hundreds of miles from one UK hospital to another, becoming the first to do so in a new NHS programme.

The new Assessment and Recovery Centres (ARCs) model allows the organ to be donated at one hospital, tested at a second and transplanted at a third, which was previously not possible.
It is expected to increase number of transplants by 20%.
If this programme is successful, it would become the the standard approach for assessing organs in the UK and save or improve up to 750 lives a year.
