Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi staged a sit-in protest outside Parliament Street Police Station in Delhi today, demanding an FIR over the alleged pellet-gun injuries suffered by student protester Sahil Lochav during the July 20 agitation at Jantar Mantar.
Gandhi met the DCP and arrived at the station with Lochav, while Congress leaders including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also joined the protest. Gandhi cited an AIIMS medical report, claiming that more than 200 pellets were lodged in Lochav’s body, including three in his eye, and alleged that he has lost vision in the affected eye.
Questioning the Delhi Police’s denial of using pellet guns, Gandhi said the key demand was an FIR and justice for Lochav’s family. He said he would not leave until the case was registered, alleging that officials had cited orders from the top for refusing to file an FIR.
Congress workers gathered outside the police station as the standoff continued, singing songs and staging a symbolic protest with a box charkha.
