A major shake-up at the Pentagon. Fresh threats against Iran. And a reported diplomatic push to prevent another round of war. US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has removed Army Lieutenant General Brett Sylvia, a senior military planner whose role involved strategy, plans and policy. The move comes as President Donald Trump weighs his next steps towards Tehran, raising questions about Washington’s military priorities at a critical moment. With reports suggesting the US could consider renewed strikes against Iran, concerns are growing across the Gulf. Could a fresh offensive expand beyond nuclear infrastructure and target Iran’s leadership? And how might Tehran retaliate if the conflict escalates again? Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance has reportedly reached out to Iranian security chief Mohsen Rezaei in an effort to restart peace negotiations. Is Washington preparing for another military campaign—or searching for a diplomatic way out? Josh Barnes brings you the story on Firstpost Live.
